Method Man in talks for graphic novel based movie

Method_man
My Hollywood sources are telling me that Method Man has been in talks with a couple of film production companies this past month to bring his upcoming graphic novel entitled "Method Man" to the big screen. Graphic novel is in collab with artist Sanford Greene with early sketches shown here. While the graphic novel doesn't come out until July 23, 2008 I do know that many film development heads are interested in the Order of the Secret Method plot line that is part DaVinci Code, part Hellboy and part How High. No joke. I'll have more details as I get hear them. Check out the full plot after the jump...

Method Man returns to "CSI" TV show

Csi
Method Man will reprise his role as Drops, an incarcerated criminal in the hit TV show "CSI." Meth originally played Drops back in 2005 but with a ratings boost from his other TV show appearance in "Law & Order: SVU," the writers have reopened Drops' storyline. In the April 24th episode entitled Drop's Out, when two recent murders are linked to Drops, The CSI team breaks him out to prison to help solve the case. Sounds like some Silence of the Lambs action if you ask me. Props to Nunya Business for the heads up.

Here is the brand new trailer for the upcoming film The Wackness which was a huge success at The Sundance Film Festival. Movie is about a troubled teenager who trades pot for therapy sessions with a psychiatrist. Method Man plays a Jamaican drug dealer who supplies the teen with all the pot he needs. And when we mean Method Man is Jamaican...yes, this means listening to Meth talk in an accent as well. See/hear for yourself. Movie also stars Ben Kingsley, Famke Janssen and one of the Olsen twins.

First look sketch art of Method Man graphic novel

Method_man_comic
From the sketch book of renowned DC Comics comic book artist Sanford Greene comes the first sketches of Method Man for his upcoming Method Man/Wu-Tang Clan graphic novel. We announced this project way back in December 2007 when Sanford had this early concept drawing of Meth shown here. Now according to Sanford, he is back to working full force on the upcoming graphic novel.

Sanford states the Meth graphic novel will be "...dirty and gritty with a lot of fast pace action. So hopefully I can pull this off. I can tell you this, Method Man with writer David Atchison has some SICK ideas!!!" From the looks of these sketches and with Meth's involvement this will be one book that every Wu-Tang fan won't want to miss out on. Still no details on when it will go to press but we will keep you updated and provide more sketches and drawings as they come along. In the meantime make sure to check out the rest of Sanford's art here.

Method Man's "The Wackness" in theaters July 2008

Method_man_the_wackness
The Sundance Film Festival favorite The Wackness now has an official release date. Sony Pictures Classics will be releasing the film that features Method Man as a Rastafarian drug dealer on July 2nd, 2008. The indie movie is set in 1994, features a great 90's hip-hop soundtrack and is about a troubled teenage drug dealer who trades pot for therapy sessions with a drug-addled psychiatrist. The two form an unlikely friendship, but things get complicated when the kid falls for the doctor's daughter. Movie also stars Ben Kingsley, Famke Janssen and my favorite "Full House" troll-girl Mary Kate Olsen.Meth should promote his new album with Redman while he's at it. Via: Slashfilm

Method Man's movie "The Wackness" sold to Sony

Wackness
We mentioned the Sundance Film Festival hype surrounding the film The Wackness which features Method Man as a Rastafarian drug dealer and is supported by a kick-ass early 90's hip-hop soundtrack. Meth did his part promoting the movie as he was very active at Sundance giving interviews and showing up at events and it looks like his work along with the rest of the cast paid off as Sony Classics has recently purchased the film in the low seven figures. Hollywood critics loved this movie but apparently are already pissed off that Sony Classics is handling the release in fear they will butcher the marketing and release pattern of it. Only time will tell but at least it will now get a legit release. Expect The Wackness hopefully in a theater near you by the end of 2008 or early 2009.

Sundance Film Festival: The Hip-Hop Influence

Sundance_hiphop
Just a couple of years back, The Sundance Film Festival was reserved for White-affluent-slope-skiing-film aficionados and indie film banners such as Fox Searchlight, Sony Classics, Fine Line Features, etc. Back then, the only rapper you might have seen in Park City, Utah, home of Sundance, was Queen Latifah or perhaps Mark Wahlberg. That was then...this is now...the age of popular culture where hip-hop influences everything from clothing lines, car models, hotel chains, vodkas, reality shows...and of course movies. Let's take a quick look at the hip-hop artists that influenced this years Sundance Film Festival...
